Grab a lawn chair and join us on August 24th from 5:00-8:00pm for a concert in the park at the Highland Park Community Centre.  “Music is Medicine - Art is Healing” will feature Indigenous musicians Pearl White Quills and Wendy Walker, as well as dancers, storytelling and more!  There will be Indigenous Craft Vendors and booths, rock painting and door prizes.  Calgary food trucks will be on-site for a community pop-up, offering many choices of food and drink for purchase from a variety of food trucks.  There will be a collection of donations of dry and canned goods, t-shirts, socks, hygiene products, blankets, tents and shoes for the Aboriginal Friendship Centre.

Pearl is Niitsiptapi (Blackfoot) from Kainai and Siksika, a part of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy) in Southern Alberta. She is a professional beadwork artist whose passion is expressed through all forms of art. As a pow wow dance class teacher, leading youth is empowering. Traditional hand drum singing allows her to spread spirituality through the heartbeat of Mother Earth and First Nations music in the ongoing Buffalo Women's Drum Circles with Elizabeth Fry Society. As a professional beadwork artist, teaching at schools and in the community, Pearl developed the courage to step into more opportunities to grow.

Wendy Walker is Metis and Mi’kmaq FN, originally from Manitoba but has made Treaty 7 her home for many years. Wendy is a seasoned performer and has had many successes in her musical career. Some highlights of those past performances include a UN performance performing for Prime Ministers Chretien and Paul Martin. She was the only Indigenous Female selected to perform at the Olympics in Pyeongchang South Korea, she has toured Canada, the United States and parts of Europe. Wendy Walker has been nominated for Best Female Artist and a few other awards such as the Heritage and Esquao for her work as an Artist. She has had the pleasure of performing in theatre, film and television as well. Currently, she is in rehearsal for her next CD, entitled The Legacy Project.
