Highland Park Community Association (HPCA) is a dynamic, resident-driven organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for residents in Highland Park. Our mission is to create a vibrant and connected community through a wide range of programs, services, and events that foster a sense of belonging and engagement. A cornerstone of the HPCA is our community based Preschool and the small, but vibrant Hall centered in our community. We are seeking an innovative and dedicated Executive Director to lead our association into its next chapter of growth and community impact.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the Highland Park Community Association (HPCA). HPCA Board is a dynamic and high functioning board who has built out programs, renovated the Hall and prioritized citizen engagement over the last 10 years. The HPCA has created a preschool program which supports more than 75 children in and around the community; in addition the 7,000 square foot hall is home to a number of independent programs which rent our space. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking leader with a proven track record in nonprofit management and operations, community engagement, and strategic planning. This role requires a blend of leadership, operational expertise, and strong relationship-building skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management: Provide management and oversight for all operational aspects of the organization and hall; including managing hall rentals and facility maintenance. Directly manage staff to run and operate the preschool program creating a positive and collaborative work environment. Manage contractors and vendors to ensure the ongoing operations of the hall. Develop and execute programs and initiatives that align with the association’s mission and goals.
Strategic Planning: Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement long-term strategic plans. Monitor and assess program effectiveness, making data-driven adjustments as needed to achieve organizational objectives.
Financial Management: Oversee the preparation and management of the association’s budget. Ensure financial stability through hall rentals, grant writing, and overall financial management. Maintain transparency and accountability in all financial practices.
Community Engagement: Serve as the primary representative for the association, building and maintaining strong relationships with residents, local businesses, and community leaders. Organize and promote community events, meetings, and outreach activities to engage and involve residents.
Governance: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and review policies and strategic priorities. Provide regular updates on organizational performance, financial status, and key initiatives. Act as support to the board such as ensuring regulatory requirements for Societies Act, obligations for the lease with the City of Calgary, and requirements for grants are met and completed. This role will support the Executive of the Board, working most commonly alongside President, Vice-President and Treasurer.
Sit as a non-voting member of the Board, attending meetings and providing updates and reports to the Board.
Operational Excellence: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and policies. Oversee the day-to-day operations, including facilities management, human resources, and administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations.Potential weekend and evenings with tenants and working with volunteers.
Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience in a management role within a nonprofit or community-focused organization.
Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and fundraising.
Strong understanding of community development and engagement strategies.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups and foster collaborative relationships.
Proficiency in relevant software and technology tools.
This role is anticipated to be .6 FTE, with review for additional hours after 3 months. Flexibility is requested of the candidate.
$40,000 - $50,000 Annual Salary (at .60 FTE)
