It’s a documented fact that connecting with others face to face is good for both your physical and mental health. Humans are a social species after all. So, why don’t you do something great for yourself, and great for your community by volunteering with others in our neighborhood?
It’s easy to participate! Contribute what you can, when you can, how you can. There are many ways to help make Highland Park the best neighborhood it can be. Here are just a few that we would be happy to welcome new volunteers to help with:
Event Planning: volunteers needed to work with others to help plan and coordinate 1 or more social events for the community, including arts & crafts sale (Apr 25), community clean-up (May 2), annual cultural celebration (May 23), Music In the Park (summer), clothing giveaway (fall), Stampede BBQ, volunteer recognition event (fall), or something new (suggestions welcome)!
Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI) Collaborative: volunteers needed to plan and promote our 2nd Annual Neighbor Day event (June 20), build connections with area businesses, help identify area services available to residents of all demographics, etc. Next SNI meeting Wed May 20, 11:15 am to 1:15 pm at Centre St. Church, free lunch provided.
Community garden at James Fowler School: volunteers needed to help them plan the new garden & keep it watered & weeded through the summer of 2015, planning meetings during school days
Community garden at 36 Ave NE & 1 St. NE: volunteers needed to pick up trash, trim weeds on slope, & plant flowers in planters at bottom of slope.
