Community Kitchen Program of Calgary runs 8 different programs that help Calgarians. Currently, Community Kitchen Program of Calgary is launching a new program that focuses on seniors, The “Calgary’s Cooking for Seniors” program.
What does everyone wish for? More time and money! Calgary’s Cooking for Seniors will help seniors achieve both. Along with addressing food inequality, these programs bring seniors together in a neutral setting, reduce isolation and create new friendships and support systems.
The Calgary’s Cooking Program gives seniors the opportunity to plan and cook a collection of nutritious and budget friendly meals. Seniors kitchens are called mini kitchens. The mini kitchens are 3 to 4 hours in length, meet 1 to 2 times per month, and each participant takes home 4-6 meals. First the group meets to plan the cook and create an order through flyer shopping to make the most economical meals. Community Kitchens purchases the ingredients and delivers to the cook site. Community Kitchens also has a supplier that donates extra staples for each person to take home each cook date. There is no membership fee charged for the seniors groups! Groups can also use the kitchen on site at Storehouse if amenities are not available in their community. New groups are trained to plan and supervised during the first three cook dates.
