HPCA is running on solar power!

Dozens of solar energy installations have been underway at community halls throughout Calgary, including our hall here in Highland Park! The solar energy installation at our hall will provide us with sustainable and affordable energy for many years to come.

This installation was made possible by a fund created from a partnership between ENMAX and The City of Calgary announced in July 2021 that provides $5 million in-kind from ENMAX Energy to designated community halls and is administered by The City.

ENMAX Energy provided the solar equipment and oversaw the installation of the solar panels at our hall at no cost to our community association. The solar installations will yield a long-term benefit as the average lifetime is between 20 to 25 years. We expect the panels to produce approximately 22,612 kWh of electrical energy per year, which would reduce our annual power consumption from the grid by 34% to 40%. For those interested in the specifics, 51 photovoltaic 400-watt modules were installed, which have an approximate capacity of 20.4 kW DC.

This installation will tap into Alberta’s solar resources, some of the best in Canada. Calgary is one of Canada’s sunniest municipalities, with 2,390 hours of sunshine annually.
